Multnomah Falls

After flying home late Saturday night, my mom and I went to Vancouver, WA to see my grandma and my brother Chris. After lunch, us kids climbed to the top of Multnomah Falls. I made it to the top, but I was a little winded on the way up

Mount Vernon

I finally made it out to Mount Vernon, George Washington's home, on my last day in Washington DC.

I toured the mansion, stables, Washington's tomb and talked with a few "characters" of the day.

Touring on my own...

I decided that Friday afternoon would be a great time to explore the outside of the Capitol. I toured the inside of the Capitol last year, but did not see much of the outside because of construction.

More Monuments

The Washington Monument is a pillar of the Mall. You can see in all directions from the observations deck; most notably the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol, the White House, and the Jefferson Memorial.
Our Second stop was at Iwo Jima. This amazing sight was under construction the last time I was there so it was awesome to see it once the remodel was done.

The last stop was the FDR Memorial. Best seen at night with the lit up waterfalls and old statues! We had a few minutes left of our tour so we stopped at the White house for a really quick picture.

Monuments by Moonlight

I went into Washington DC and did the Monuments by Moonlight. I got some great pictures but the views were so much better in person.

I started my adventure by taking the
Metro into Union Station and then got
on the trolley for a two and a half
hour tour. The tour guide was hilarious and made the trip fun. We drove by the Capitol and around the Mall. We saw a whole bunch of softball, soccer, and volleyball games on the Mall grass. Then we drove by the Jefferson Memorial on our way to our first stop
Our first stop was at the Lincoln Memorial, the Korean War Memorial and The Vietnam Wall. My trip to DC last spring did not include stopping by the Korean War Memorial so it was something new and exciting. I also found a family member on the Vietnam Wall...very touching. Honest Abe was right where I left him last year--such a magnificant sight!

Safe Arrival

Hey all, I made it to DC without any complications...unless you consider almost missing my connection in Denver. They were calling my name over the loud speaker!! Michelle Jesk (not Jeske) please report to gate B28, this is your final boarding call!! I did not know my plane was even boarding!

I took the Metro from the airport to Gaithersburg, MD where I was picked up by our COO, Glenn. Checked into the hotel and then went to dinner at a good pub. Really good blackened salmon...mmmm. Under per diem for you work folks! The three of us here watched (on tv) the Yankees beat the Red Sox and are now calling it a night--midnight DC time. Lots of work to do this week and then a little relaxing or sight seeing Friday and Saturday.

Golfing

I wore my golfing shirt and my golfing shorts, put on suncreen and golfed (attempted)18 holes. My team did not do great, finished 3 under par but with the way the handicaps went, we finished with 87 (18 handicap). Usually the highest team gets golf lessons so I was excited until the last team they put on the board had a gross score of 101 and a net of 89--no lessons for my team :( It was a fun day and a great salmon and steak dinner. I won two bottles of wine in the auction--whoa! I kinda like the Mariners tickets that I got last year, but maybe next time. Did not get any pictures of me, but lots of fun times!!

Upcoming May Adventures

Tomorrow starts a chain of busy times and great adventures!! I am playing in a fundraiser Golf Tournament Friday afternoon (this is my third year and they still let me play) I will endure 4 hours of pain and critique, but they reward me with a nice steak and salmon dinner.
It is a go..go..go weekend and then I am off to Washington DC on Monday morning for work. I will be working through Thursday and then I am free to explore our Nation's Capitol!! I am hoping to make it out to Mount Vernon and all around The Mall (and I do not mean shopping, more like museums, visiting with Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, FDR, and maybe the Spy Museum)
I love riding the subway and I am sure I will be riding from one side of the city to the other--and then walking miles on end. I am ready for miles...maybe a little Hood to Coast training.

I'll keep you posted and let you know how golfing goes...maybe even a few pictures!

Stiches..and I do not mean quilting or cross stitching

I had a little mishap this morning that sent me to Urgent Care. I went to work a little late with 3 stitches on my elbow. I am now dealing with pain and discomfort...like I hit my funny bone. To my knowledge, these are my first stiches and they were so nice they gave me a tetnus shot!!

Bloomsday

Karlene and I traveled to Spokane for Bloomsday 2007. 12K, 7.46 miles from downtown Spokane down a big hill, up a few hills, and then Doomsday Hill. I beat last year's time by about 15 minutes.

It felt so good to turn that last corner and see the finish line. We both sprinted to the finish line and smiled with a sense of accomplishment. We got our finisher t-shirts and left the crowded Spokane downtown.

My legs were already getting sore and driving home and then trying to get out of the car was a challenge...we rushed home to go to a softball game. I tried out my new bat for the first time--running for a double stretched to a triple was not what my legs wanted to do!! I took a hard hit ball to the left shin. It immediately welted up and hurt a lot. Over the past few days, it has turned all different colors and is still swollen.

In the Meantime

So some of you are wondering why I have not been blogging lately. It could be that I am not doing anything noteworthy...yeah right, I have just been too busy to get on here. I finished my first quilt...basic but a lot of fun. I must be hooked because I am ready to start a second quilt after I finish my pillow cases and catch up on a few other projects.

I recently passed Part III of my CMA (Certified Management Accountant) exams. One more part for CMA and then one part for CFM. Boring stuff, but good for the resume and keeps me learning new things!!
